Multi-Cultural Celebration at Kindred Oaks | Austin Wedding Photographer
I cannot wait to show you this multicultural celebration at Kindred Oaks!
This day was one to remember. When two people come together in marriage, it’s not just the joining of hearts, it’s the beautiful blending of stories, families, cultures, and values. And for Anna and Richard, their Austin wedding was exactly that.
A celebration that honored where they came from, who raised them, and the people who continue to shape them.
I felt so honored to be there to capture it! Their day was filled with vibrant tradition, intentional moments, and surprises that left everyone giddy with joy. It was such a powerful reminder of why I love what I do.
From the very beginning, it was clear how much thought and care these two poured into their wedding. They both spent time carefully writing their vows, and the words they shared were as intentional as they were heartfelt. Their ceremony set the tone for the rest of the day: full of meaning & family. And so much celebration.
Anna and Richard mentioned to me before their big day that they were feeling apprehensive about being photographed. I mean, no one is used to a photographer following them around all day! But I reassured them (as I do all my couples!) that half the time they'll forget I'm there, because the wedding isn't about the photos.
A wedding is about celebrating your love with the people that mean most to you through whatever traditions or activities you've chosen.
Those rituals, whether it's hand fasting at your ceremony, toasts as everyone shares a meal, or the horah during dancing, connect you with the people who have practiced them before you and share in their joy. And I think that is SO special.
And this day at Kindred Oaks was the perfect example of all of that in action.
Anna’s Polish heritage was woven beautifully into the day. Anna’s parents welcomed the couple with bread and salt: symbols of hospitality and resilience. The bread represents a wish that their children will never go hungry, and the salt was a reminder that life isn’t always easy, but with love and partnership, you weather the storms together.
And then, for a little meaningful fun, they each picked a glass… one filled with water, the other with vodka… and had to guess which was which. Richard ended up with the vodka (depending on how you see it, he either lost, or was the life of the party), and from there the celebration truly began.
Guests from both sides then joined together for the Polish wedding march. Some knew the steps, others didn’t, but that didn’t matter. Watching everyone link arms and laugh through it was one of those moments that just sticks with you… a perfect picture of how love unites families, even when the dance steps are new.
Later in the evening, another tender moment unfolded. Richard shared a dance with his mom, and at the end of the song, he invited all the moms and aunties to join him on the dance floor. It was such a simple, beautiful way to honor the women who shaped him, and one of my favorite things about this wedding—every moment felt like an intentional nod to the people who helped build this love.
After dinner, it was time for a full outfit change. Anna and Richard (and many of their friends) changed into traditional Nigerian attire for the Igba Nkwu ceremony. Anna was handed a cup of wine by her father and made her way through the crowd to find Richard. When he accepted the wine, they found Richard’s father who then gave a blessing over them.
And the energy? Electric.
Guests tossed money at the couple as they moved through the ceremony. It was playful, joyful, and bursting with meaning. Just like with the Polish traditions, not everyone knew exactly what to do, but that didn’t matter. What mattered was the love and the openness everyone brought to the moment. It was a living, dancing symbol of what happens when cultures unite through love.
Anna and Richard’s Kindred Oaks wedding reminded me why I love photographing special days here in Austin.
Yes, it’s the amazing scenery & authentic couples, but more than that: it’s moments like these. Couples who show up fully, who honor where they come from, who celebrate the people they love, and who build something new, together.
If that’s the kind of love story you’re writing too, I’d be honored to capture it.
